OVERVIEW

VH1 And WeForShe Honor The Writers Of The 2016 WriteHer List

At A Celebration Sponsored By VH1 Scripted Programming In Los Angeles Wednesday, April 27

New York, NY (April 28, 2016) – On Wednesday, April 27th, WeForShe and VH1 partnered to celebrate the publication of The 2016 WriteHer List.   The WriteHer List was started by WeForShe as an effort to bring attention to great unproduced television scripts by female writers.

The event took place at a private residence in Los Angeles and was attended by honorees and nominators of The 2016 WriteHer List as well entertainment industry executives & influencers. In a speech to assembled group, WeForShe board member Katy McCaffrey addressed the lack of gender diversity in television despite increasing awareness of the issue. McCaffrey reiterated the WeForShe organization's core mission to translate awareness into change through action, and thanked VH1 for the network's emerging role as a key agent for change in the fight for gender equality in television.

Since the list's publication, honorees of The 2016 WriteHer List report that their scripts have seen increased interest and awareness, raising their profiles within the industry.  Several writers have signed with new representation, and several more are now developing their pilots with a producer attached.

VH1 and the network's Scripted Programming division are proud to support WeForShe on the WriteHer list early in its formation and will continue to work with WeForShe to achieve gender balance in television.  From its start, VH1 Scripted Programming has always prioritized hiring women as show creators, pilot and episodic directors, writers, and producers – from its first dramatic hit series "Single Ladies" created by Stacy Littlejohn with a pilot directed by Tamra Davis and produced by Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere, Shelby Stone, and Maggie Malina to its most recent series pickup "Satan's Sisters" written by Amy & Wendy Engelberg and produced by Suzanne DePasse, Star Jones, Josh Berman, and Susan Levison.

WeForShe works within the industry to bring about a gender-balanced landscape in television and encourages some of the most influential industry executives and content creators to put forth under-recognized female talent. The organization then works to create tools and programs that raise the profile of those women in the industry and make it easier for executives and creators to hire them. To this end, for the second consecutive year, WeForShe has published The WriteHer List - a go-to resource for the top female-driven scripts available in television:
